Traveling is Saving Lives.

Capture

Traveling is my passion. I seek to be fully embodied within various cultures throughout the world. I aspire to live amongst the people that make up the diversity of the universe. It isn’t about the scenery, language and food, to me it is about living an unforgettable experience and achieving greatness in a passion that burns with great fire. Words are so insignificant when trying to express the importance of being able to experience a life abroad.

Sometimes when we think about travel we think of vacations, business trips or maybe to visit family but have you ever thought of doing it as a life-detox?

Scrolling through stories about international travel I came across a story of a woman who did just that.

Throughout this article I was becoming more emotional after each para.  Mariellen Ward, a young woman battling depression decided to leave her darkened life behind and become more involved with her love of yoga. After 11 months of planning Ward was finally ready for take-off. She prepared to live abroad for half a year in India, where yoga was born.

Rejuvenating, India has given Ward a new chance at life.

“I left behind both my depression and a career that I’d found boring and unfulfilling,” Ward said. “Instead, I began pursuing the career and lifestyle of my dreams.”

Biased by the commonalities of passion, travel, learning and illness I was sad to see the article end.

With a lede that kept me intrigued and a relatable background, it wasn’t long before I found inspiration thriving from this story. Right when I thought the story was over, the talented writer, Mariellen Ward left us (the reader) with a piece of advice that I feel is important to learn from.

“The greatest lesson I took from this experience is that sometimes, there is nothing better than to listen to your inner voice, the one that keeps you awake at night, disturbs your plans and makes you uncomfortable. When you step off the beaten path to “follow your bliss”, as mythologist Joseph Campbell said, you are on a completely unique journey. There is no universally applicable advice from there, because when you truly listen to yourself, you will be creating your own path. Doors will open for you that would not open for anyone else.”(Ward)

In my opinion I think it is important to do and be all that you want to be in life. Despite what society believes is best for you, you know your heart better.

Bravo Ms. Ward you overcame an illness that many don’t; simply by doing what you love to do. You are a hero to many.

“because wherever I sat—on the deck of a ship or at a street café in Paris or Bangkok—I would be sitting under the same glass bell jar, stewing in my own sour air.”

― Sylvia Plath, The Bell Jar
